Sheffield Working Women's Opportunities Project (SWWOP)
In 2017, we awarded £6,000 towards the conversion of a van to be used for outreach work in Sheffield.
Organisation
Sheffield Working Women’s Opportunities Project provides intensive support to vulnerable women involved in street prostitution. Women involved in street prostitution are more likely to experience physical deprivation, physical and sexual assaults, drug and alcohol abuse, ostracism and social exclusion. SWWOP are in contact with approximately 200 individuals per year on the street who lead vulnerable and dangerous lives. They aim to improve their clients’ health and safety, and work in conjunction with the police and various multi-agencies.
Outreach Van Capital Project
SWWOP run evening mobile outreach services to distribute free condoms, sexual health screening, access to needle exchange, information and signposting to other support networks, and provide hot drinks and sandwiches. On an average evening, they will support 8 - 10 women. The old van had shown some wear and tear, therefore the need for a new van was required to continue this vital work. SWWOP purchased the van with other funding and our grant of £6,000 went towards converting the van by installing cupboards, bench seats, sinks, flooring, to make it welcoming and comfortable for the staff and clients.
