Making the Leap
Making the Leap is an innovative grassroots social justice charity that aims to make a big difference. It provides high-quality training to thousands of 11-30-year olds from low income families in schools and communities in London.
Developing the essential skills of young people from poorer backgrounds to increase social mobility is the very essence of what at Making the Leap has done for more than 25 years. Everything it does with young people is about raising their aspirations and includes developing the key soft skills vital for life and the world of work such as confidence, communication skills, organisational skills, motivation and time keeping.
Making the Leap recognises that, with the right support and opportunities, talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds can overcome the barriers they face and go on to make a great contribution to society. Services include:
- Projects aimed at helping them secure life-changing career opportunities
- Support to access Higher level Apprenticeships or go to Russell Group universities
- Leadership and career development programmes
Our £176,000 in 2019 over three years was for a skills training and employment opportunities project in London. It followed our previous three year £150,000 grant in 2014 supporting Making the Leap to work with more young people to help unlock their potential, develop their soft skills and help them to access real career opportunities which they otherwise would not have access to.
